Irving Goldberg1908-1999 Eulogy by Alan Goldberg

"We have all been truly blessed by knowing Irving Goldberg.

How do you describe my father Irving
Saint…Thoughtful…Good…Mentor…Sincere…Helpful

I could go on and on. We all have our own description…but they will include many of these words.

Our relationship as father and son was special from the first day he threw me a ball in my crib. And the good news is that everyone in this room had a special relationship with Irving because he was a very special person. His primary interest was always…always you not him. He was as perfect a human being as you could find anywhere in this world.

From the earliest day I can remember him helping others…from driving people to airports, to helping people learn to drive, ski, play sports, and just always having time to listen to and help people with their problems…you name it he was always there helping others and that continued all his life.

The Shiman picnics and softball games, the cousins club events, the games at Goldberg’s Gardens, his trips to Rutgers, where he never missed a game I played in, his golf matches at Galloping Hills, his card games and dancing group were always with others he loved and wanted to help and support.

He had a very special place in his heart for his wife, children, daughter and son-in-laws, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He loved his family and family events and never missed a one, be it traveling to California for Julie’s wedding, Hawaii last year for Harpers wedding or Boston a month ago for Susan’s wedding. Family meant everything to both Ida and Irving.

I would hope that some of Irving will live on in all of us so that we can carry on his traditions.

I would like to close by reading you a poem:

God saw you were getting tired,
And a cure was not to be,
So he put his arms around you
And whispered, “Come to me.”

With tearful eyes we watched you,
And saw you pass away.
Although we loved you dearly,
We could not make you stay.

A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands at rest.

God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best.

Rest in Peace Dad….We all love you."
