Bernard Chazanoff

  General Notes:

The name Chazanoff means (off) desendant of & (Chasan) Cantor.

Per Susan Stone, Bernard was hit on the side of the head with a candlestick by a Cossack during a pogrom in Odessa. The blow left him deaf in one ear and a little out of touch.

Bernard arrived in the U.S on the SS Pottsdam from Rotterdam. He was 47 years of age. His fare was $150.00 and the ticket was purchased by his son-in-law, Solomon Sovel.He was going to the home of his son, Morris Chaisinow in Philadelphia. His birthplace was shown on the manifest as "Sosenka".

Bernard and his wife Mire never lived together in Philadelphia. He spent the last five and a half years of his life in the Jewish Sheltering Home for the Aged, 315 South 3rd Street, Philadelphia.
